Croatia proudly offers eight national parks. Seven of them are within a short distance of Croatia's coast line. The other Plitvice Lakes National Park is situated approximately 200 kilometers from the coast line.

The most popular park is called Plitvice Lakes National Park. The park comprises 16 inter-connected lakes, with spectacular waterfalls and surrounded by vast forests.

On the west coast there is the Brijuni Islands National Park where the rich and famouse have enjoyed their holidays for centuries.

Another well known island park is called Kornati. This park contains at least 150 small islnads which are ideal places for both mountaineers and scuba divers to enjoy their respective sports.

Mljet is situated on the south west coast close to Dubrovnik. It is a particularly green and fertile island and the two lakes are unique for divers.

For those holidaymakers who enjoy being near rivers one  of the best venues is National Park Krka.

National Parks Sjeverni Velebit, Paklenica and Risnjak are mountainous parks that appear to have been designed for hangliders and for the less adventurous botanists and lovers of wildlife.
